My client use Oracle 10g standard edition. And he wants a second server with a standby database.
The second server is identical than the first one.
But Oracle says the following:
Oracle Data Guard is available only as a feature of Oracle Database Enterprise Edition.
It is not available with Oracle Database Standard Edition.
it's true that Oracle database guard is not available in Standard Edition you have to buy ENterprise Edition for this option; however, there are a way to set up data guard on standard edition, some of the guys in here posted the docs so search for it in here.
you can have a standby database which is basically in permanent recovery - you cannot have dataguard, all you can have is an old fashioned standby (which needs to be licensed)
anyone have any idea where i can get more information on how to set up a physical standby database without dataguard using 10g standard editon on two machines running windows. i can't seem to find anything on the web to help me out. thanks.
Niall Lichfield has written an article on creating a 10g SE standby on Windows. I can't seem to find it right now; anyone know the URL? It's probably just what the OP is after...
