Hello Everyone,
I installed the 8.1.6.2 patch to 8.1.6.0 release on a production and development node on AIX machine. Now my director wants me to go back to 8.1.6 release.
First, how do I accomplish this since the patch is permanent?
Second, how do I preserve the current database?
Third, will this database open if I import it to 8.1.6 from 8.1.6.2?
Thanks. Oisaya

I think all you need to do is install 8.1.6.0 in a seperate $ORACLE_HOME. Then, you shutdown the database using the 8.1.6.2 executables and open the database using the 8.1.6.0 executables.

Thats work around, if can't afford to have down time/transaction loss, and the database is up and runing. If you can, restore it from cold back up and apply redo log... still you should be okay if your transaction rate is not that much and redolgs are of sufficient size.
Not sure whats your situation. Solution is based on your situation.
I don't see any work around as binaries got upgraded. If you are looking for specific oracle product option which is not working say like replication or whatever... see the scripts comments for those options in $O_H/rdbms/admin directory...
and try to rerun prv version script for that option. Just trial.

You may want to consider an upgrade to 8.1.6.3...

If I install 8.1.6.0 on another node and then export the DB from 8.1.6.2, do you think there will be a problem importing it on the new node? What do I have to do to make sure it will open up without corruption?
Thanks. Oisaya

I would do like marist89 suggested.
Don't forget to run catalog, catproc, catrep,...

I would like to upgrade to 8.1.6.3 but I have been told that that will not happen since all the release nationwide is 8.1.6. If there is any thing to be concerned about on export let me know. Thanks.
