    RMAN DBPITR question

    Hi

We are new into RMAN backups. I have couple of doubts in maintaining recovery catalog. We are performing RMAN backups to the disk and we use Veritas netbackup to media, retention policies will be maintained by Veritas Netbackup.

If we delete backup files from O/S periodically by using O/S commands to free up the disk space, RMAN catalog shows backups are expired, when we crosscheck the backups, it's fine as longs as I do not use delete expired command, I can just restore from media and then crosscheck the backups made available.

But If I use delete expired; records will be deleted from recovery catalog, In any case, If I need to use these logically expired backups, but physically available on Netbackup media, how I can make them available to the recovery catalog? so that my restore and recovery works.

    Please suggest.

    Thanks in advance.

i believe you can tell the catalog that there is a backup piece you want to re-enter to the catalog
