RMAN

I have 2 database of 8i,
I use rman on NT
I have done the inital necessary details pertaining to RMAN user
, but I am not using a REcovery Catalog;

When I register a target database , I get the following error

RMAN-03022: compiling command: register
RMAN-06428: recovery catalog is not installed
RMAN-03026: error recovery releasing channel resources
RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS ===============
RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-03002: failure during compilation of command
RMAN-03013: command type: register
RMAN-06429: RCVCAT database is not compatible with this version of RMAN

Any clues , What could be the problem?

HI,
1.Which versions of oracle are you trying to setup.
2.What r the initial necessary things that you have done for the user??
3.If you r not using the recovery catalog,you have to register the target database using target database control file.

There is separate procedure to register using control file
registeration
