Rman Configuration Suggestions

Hi,

We are planning to implement RMAN backups at our sites. We have large number of instances running on different platforms. We would like cater a separate server (Solaris) RMAN catalog database and perform RMAN backups for most of the databases using catalog. We are not going to use any Media Manger to backup directly.

Please clarify my doubts / queries:

1. When I run backup from RMAN catalog DB server, where the backup files stores? On the Target database server ? or Locally on catalog DB server?

2. We have veritas Netbackup, we would like to use same for our backups, in this case, how we balance (sync) veritas netbackup policies and RMAN backup policies?


Please share your implementation experiences. Probably you would have already running your backups on RMAN.
