    Double migration

    Hi,
    I have to :
    1) Migrate from one disk configuration to another
    2) Migrate from Oracle 8i to 9i

For 1) I just want to create the same directories u00, U01, ...
and restore data on them. My question as a newbe is what to
    do exactly after that ?
For 2) What are the possible solutions and what is the best ?
    Please give details.
    Thanks for help

    Hi.

    Option 1:
First, move the files to a new location:

    http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/...racleFiles.php

Then do the upgrade, as per manual.

    Option 2:
Create a new Oracle9i instance on the new disks. The export the data from 8i and import into 9i.

Personally, if I have the time and disk space I always go for option 2.

Your question is very vague and broad. I doubt anyone will have the time and patience to give you an complete answer to such a broad question. Why not try it out, and post if you get specific problems.

    Cheers
