Job description:
Banking client is commencing a large-scale data warehouse and business intelligence project. The purpose of this project is to enhance, supplement, and migrate current application systems and data stores to create an Enterprise Management Information System to better support the information and data needs of the business units throughout the Bank. It is anticipated that this project will ultimately result in (1) the augmentation of various Bank source systems and applications, (2) the creation of a Data Warehouse and/or Operational Data Store, and (3) the implementation of a Business Intelligence tool to provide information access, analysis, and reporting.

Working under the direction of the project manager, the Business Analyst will be responsible for gathering and analyzing requirements and information from key business stakeholders and translating them to data requirements, defining and documenting the data requirements, analyzing source systems and data stores to identify and document the required data and transformation rules, and issues with the source systems, and be accountable for ongoing data analysis to support the project throughout database design, modeling, ETL (extract, transform and load), reports building and users acceptance testing.

Major Accountabilities:

Contribute to the project effort by assisting in the definition and analysis of business and data requirements. Work directly with Project Management, IS management and staff, and key business stakeholders to ensure successful project completion.

Interview key project stakeholders with regards to the current sources and uses of enterprise data, strengths and weaknesses in the current data stores, and business processes underlying the use of enterprise data. Document findings and make recommendations for enhancements.

Gather and analyze relevant information and requirements with regards to user data requirements and source systems, often working directly with business and IS support staff. Identify, define and document the data requirements. Identify, analyze and document the source systems and source data, and all business rules for deriving the required data. Identify application data models and inter-dependencies between applications and data to understand data flow and determine data gaps and issues.

Working with the project team, provide ongoing data analysis and assist with modeling to define enterprise data repositories, as well as required enhancements to existing source system data.


Skills/Knowledge:

Five years business analysis, data profiling, data modeling and systems implementation experience, preferably with a data warehousing and/or business intelligence focus, and specifically in a wholesale banking, financial services and/or capital markets environment.

Experience with a variety of database products and tools, such as with Oracle (8i, 9i, 10g) as well as MS SQLServer (2000) and MS Access (97, XP, 2003). Experience with SQL and data interrogation tools, such as SQLNavigator, TOAD, etc. Experience with data modeling tools such as ERwin is a plus.

Thorough understanding of data modeling methodologies, data warehousing and business intelligence. Experience in data warehouse design and ETL tools and business intelligence applications is preferred.

Expertise in the following areas: trade capture and management systems, portfolio accounting systems * preferably with derivative transactions, and financial risk modeling tools. Prior experience with vendor applications such as Global Trader, Summit, Infinity, OPICS, Devon Derivatives, TreasuryTrader, QRM, Pinehurst, etc., is strongly preferred.

Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills and strong analytical and problem solving ability. Demonstrated ability to interact with all levels of business users and technical personnel.

Must be able to write clear, concise technical and end-user documentation.

Must be able to work effectively under pressure, both independently and as a team member.

Must be able to manage multiple project tasks, meet deadlines, and deal with conflicting priorities.
