    Hello,

I am doing the production full database export with consistent=Y option 2:00 am everyday and It only takes about 15 minutes. the size of file is after gzipping only less than 15 M.

Our system administrator asked me to change backup time to 11:00 pm.

I wonder what kind of overhead is related to export process in the database level?
I prefer 2:00 am to 11:00pm, since less people is connected to the database.

Could anybody can answer this for me?

How long does the export take? I'm assuming it's taking less than 5 minutes for a dump of 15 meg compressed. If this is correct, my opinion is that it will not make any difference whether you do it at 2am or 11:pm .

You are right. it takes 2 or 3 minutes.
I already chaged cronjob to 11:00 pm.

What if it takes 30 or more?

    Thanks.

If people are working at 11pm, then you may want to consider using the option --> consistent=y for the export.

    Wow, That is very interesting.

I don't really know, but I guess that your Operating System resource is shared by many other processes at 9:00 , so it takes too long.
If you find why please let me know.
I will search the answer by myself.

    drishti,
If you are EXPORTing with consistent=Y then Export time will vary a lot with the number of users doing transactions because a lot of rollback info is used to make it consistent.
