    What if it's not managed? My other question is. After i do RECOVER STANDBY DATABASE; i have tried to do an rman backup of the standby db and i get this error

    piece handle=C:\U01\ORABKUP\OKCDBST2\DF_T580499068_S107_P1 comment=NONE
    channel d1: backup set complete, elapsed time: 00:00:55
    Finished backup at 23-JAN-06

    Starting backup at 23-JAN-06
    specification does not match any archive log in the recovery catalog
    Finished backup at 23-JAN-06

    RMAN-06497: WARNING: controlfile is not current, controlfile autobackup skipped

    released channel: d1
    What is causing the two errors?

    alter database recover managed standby database disconnect from session;

    fire this after mounting the database in standby and check for the applied log status in v$archived_log

    my standby database is not managed. I manually backup the archive logs. I can see all the archive logs from the primary in the directory where i put them in standby. Mounted the standby and tried to RECOVER STANDBY DATABASE. It seems to work but when i fired the V$archived log to see applied log status. There were no rows fetched.

    why not just set log_archive_dest_2 and have the database ship over the archive logs?
