Centralized RMAN Question
Hello.
We currently have 8i,9i and 10g HPUX environments. There are several independent RMAN environments with their own catalog(8i,9i) that have been configured on individual servers due to space constraints.
I have been given the opportunity to Merge all those RMAN environments and centralize on a beefy server and I did have some questions regarding compatiblity.
The Target databases are 9i and 10g. The Centralized RMAN database will be 10g. Can you advise me on compatibility issues between 9i/10 target databases and 10g Rman repository?

Use the high version RMAN executable i.e in your case its 10g.
Register all the databases 10g,9i,8i with the 10g RMAN and Oracle will take care of the compatibility issues. You take care of the scripts and other RMAN maintenance.
Good luck!

do your own job first, i.e do some research in the docs and metalink

Thanks Pando, I am already doing that as well.. I like your sense of humor. Who said DBAs have a dry sense of humor?

We have implemented 9i database on 10g catalog and it is working perfectly.
We did not try 8i databases may be you need to do some trial and run for that. As far as compatibility is concerned here is the latest compatibility matrix.
Target/Auxiliary Database RMAN Executable Catalog Database Catalog Schema
8.1.7.4 8.1.7.4 >=8.1.7 8.1.7.4
8.1.7.4 8.1.7.4 >=8.1.7 >=9.0.1.4
9.0.1 9.0.1 >=8.1.7 >= RMAN executable
9.2.0 >=9.0.1.3 and <= Target database >=8.1.7 >= RMAN executable
10.1.0 >=9.0.1.3 and <= Target database >=9.0.1 >= RMAN executable
10.2.0 >=9.0.1.3 and <= Target database >=9.0.1 >= RMAN executable
Doc ID: Note:73431.1 on metalink.
So according to this matrix if you have 8.1.7.4 databases it should work with 10g catalog.
