pfile ----> init.ora RESOLVED
Hi!
I´m a student learning Oracle.
I´ve encounterd a problem with the startup of my database.
in sqlplus, after logging, when i run "startup" command I get this errormessage;
ORA-01078: failure in processing system parameters
LRM-00110: syntax error at '{\rtf1\ansi\ansicpg1252\deff0\deflang1053{\fonttbl{\f0\fswiss\fcharset0'
I´ve no clue what it means.
In order for me to startup the database I have to run command "startup pfile=(searchpath to the init.ora)" Instead of just "startup"
Any ideas on how to resolve this problem?
Best regards

go to ORACLE_HOME/dbs and find the init.ora file you are using, then remove the bad parameters

Looks like you've used a word processing program to create/edit the init.ora file. You must use a plain text editor, e.g. vi or Notepad.

Thank´s DaPi.
Your suggestion with the editorchange resolved the problem, did not know it was dependent on what type of editor you are using. Thanks again!

Mainly because i´m in an educational mode where we got to choose between using spfile and pfile/init.ora.
I find pfile more easy to use,but in a "real situtation" I would consider using spfile because it seems to be more dynamic and flexible.
