could not mount in exclusive mode

I have 2 problems with my database.
1. When i try to connect to my database using sql*plus some time it hangs.
2. When i logged in to my (running) database, I got database could not mount in exclusive mode.Then i killed all the oracle backgroung processes and i started up the database.I got " Connected to Idle instance". Now it is working fine.

Could you tell me what was the problem ?

In alert log file ,
sculkget: failed to lock /databases/ora10g//dbs/lkORCL exclusive
sculkget: lock held by PID: 6159

ORCL is my database instance name.

ORA-09968: unable to lock file
Linux Error: 11: Resource temporarily unavailable
Additional information: 6159

Then it starts stopping CJQ,MMNL and MMON background processes.

I think you need to shut everything down, make sure no processes are running / shared memory is cleaned up, then restart as you are in an unknown state
