    Alert Log Message during Backup Process

    Hi all,

    I run an offline backup once a week. I got a few srange things going on here. Seems the backup had to issue an abort and would not shut immediate. Then the files did not get copied to the backup location and I got a dump from pmon. Went through all the logs and cannot see what went wrong here. I believe this has happened once before and only when the shutdown immedite fails and I have to go to a shutdown abort. Any Ideas, Thanks Kathy

    AIX 5.2
    Oracle 9.2.0.3 (stayed at .3 for 3rd party software req's)

    Always issue "alter system checkpoint" before you shutdown the database with any option and switch logfile.

    I think there might be active transactions going on when you issue "shutdown immediate" command.
    Try this method:

    SQL> alter system checkpoint ;

    System altered.

    SQL> alter system switch logfile;

    System altered.

    SQL> shutdown transactional;
    Database closed.
    Database dismounted.
    ORACLE instance shut down.
