    Datafile maintenance

I have few tablespaces where there are more than 3 datafiles per tablespace, Now i have a situation where i need to have just one datafile per tablespace.

how do i eliminate the datafiles?

Moving all the objects to a diff tablespace(single datafile) and drop the old tablespace. Is there any other way?

No other way. Silly request to have only one file per tablespace, though.

    Can you justify?

LMT's,ASM's,RAID's doing their part one is more than having more...

    not if you

    1) need to spread i/o across mutiples LUNs
    2) have a filesystem size limit
    3) dont want to restore massive files (for most people a file is the lowest unit of recovery )

    1) What's LUN? Would'nt the RAID take care of I/O issues.
    2) My datafile as of now has not reached 2gigs.

May be i should have clearly put in more details abt my datafile earlier.

    It's up to you.
Why do you have to do anything (creating, moving, droping), just to get rid of datafiles?
    Working? Don't touch it.
