Character Set Modification
Hi All,
All our databases have
nls_language = American
I've been asked if I can include a table with French and German Name and Addresses, including accents (and I don't mean speaking in a funny way!)
Can this be done, i.e., can you change the characterset for a table, or is the characterset defined when you create the database?
If so, would I need to create a new database with a european characterset and import the 'american' tables into it.
Thanks.

You better check the NLS_CHARACTERSET.
Characterset CANNOT be modified based on table-level.
It is database-level.
You can import the tables into the new database with the expected characterset.
But there are some restrictions such as the new characterset must be the superset of the old one.

YES

No not needed!
To explain how to change the database character set or national character set of an existing Oracle8(i) or Oracle9i database without having to recreate the database.
