    Server config for Data Guard

I am planning to implement Data guard for my Solaris server. My current production server has 8 processer and 12 gigs of RAM.

Do I have to order a new server with the same config?

Depends on if you want the organization to crawl, walk or run when you failover.

crawl - server can barely keep up with normal processing, any activity other than the application kills performance entirely, users are beating down the door to drag you out and flog you, you're updating your resume.

walk - server is keeping up with application and other activities, users are not beating down the door but they are complaining about performance, you're sweating it out, but ok.

run - server handles all workload, users don't experience any performance degredation and only the usual ones are complaining, you're enjoying a coffe.

How about checking the documentation - wouldn't it make sense to start from there?
