    Red face Index rebuilding

At what point do we decide that it's time to start rebuilding the tables indexes? I have max_extents set to UNLIMITED on both tables and indexes. Some of the indexes have grown to more than 100 extents but I don't see any visible performance degradation. But I am not sure when should I start thinking about rebuilding my indexes or do an import / export on tables to reset extents. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thx. Sathya

If you are using locally managed tablespaces, instead of the old dictionary management, then you have a long way to go before you start to see degradation -- 1,000 extents is entirely manageable.

Search "rebuild indexes" on Asktom.oracle.com for reasons not to rebuild
