    Oracle7 and Client >= 8.1.7

    Hi everybody,

    Id like to know if it's possible to a 8.1.7 client (or newer) to connect to an Oracle7 database.

    I can't test it now, that's why I ask for it.

    Thanks for your answer.

    PS: as my application is a C# application, I need a 8.1.7 client (or newer) in order to connect (connection already works on 9i).

    Metalink article 207303.1 has the compatibility matrix:

    7.3.4, 8i and 9.0 client --> 7.3.4 database is OK
    9.2 client and up --> 7.3.4 database is NOT OK

    See article 207319.1 which flat out says 9.2 client to 7.3.4 is bad.
    Also, I seem to remember ODBC problems, depending on miss-matched versions - though I can't remember what the combinations were.

    Been a while since I saw a 7.x...

    Thanks for your answer.
    In France, Oracle 7 is still in use in many companies... fench people are not really up to date about IT...

    I tried a 9.2 client, and I agree with the matrix

    Does anyone know how to get an oracle 8.1.7 client? (on oracle.com, only 9.2 is still available in archive)

    if you have a valid support contract raise a TAR and oracle will ship it to you
