Senior Database Engineer

The Database Engineer is a senior level engineer responsible for the design of logical and physical database models. The candidate will support development efforts for one or multiple diverse types of large database systems. Perform requirements analysis, data modeling, and database engineering functions for relational database system(s). The candidate needs to have in-depth knowledge of database technologies with software applications.
This position requires experience with full life-cycle database development including developing DDL, implementing databases, tuning databases and related software applications, testing, configuration management of database objects, implementing database changes, and providing operational support to databases. In this position, the candidate must be able to identify and resolve problems in databases with a minimum of guidance and direction, and be familiar with software development methods.
Work with Architects to develop logical schemas of existing or new databases.
Participate in formulating and implementing database architecture, database standards, database policies, etc.
Interact with the developers, and technical departments to promote information sharing.
Improve data management and access through the use of existing and new methods, tools, and technologies.
Mentor application team members in best practices and use of new DBMS features.
Assist application team members with applying standards and resolving integration issues.
Assist application team members in prototyping and optimizing queries.
Assist application team members in designing the database storage structures.
Following standards, write, maintain and document scripts needed in support of applications.
Identify application performance bottlenecks and recommend resolution

5+ years Database Administration experience with strong OLTP, VLDB, and dot-com skills required.
Proven troubleshooting skills and expert level understanding of database internals.
Strong Unix skills required, preferably Solaris and Linux flavors. Proven experience with command-line database tools (SQL*Plus, PL/SQL) and UNIX development environments (Perl, CVS) required.
Working expertise with at least one scripting language (Perl, Bourne shell, etc.).
Strong Database and SQL tuning skills with hands-on experience in large, very busy environment.
Flexible, adaptable, and able to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to peers and management
Good data modeling experience for relational database.
Explains technical constraints in terms that business and PMs can understand.
Good knowledge of PL/SQL, and assisting developers with writing and tuning database code.
Excellent communication skills
