upgrade to 9i 64-bit from 8.1.7 32-bit

Hi,

Current versions:
Oracle 8.1.7 - 32bit
UNIX AIX 4.3.3 - 32bit kernel, 64bit hardware and extensions are installed

Need to upgrade to
Oracle 9i - 64bit
UNIX AIX 5.2 - 64bit everything

Has anyone done this upgrade? I would like to do it in small steps, because I also have to upgrade a 3rd party software.

Here is my scenario, tell me if you think it will work.

Install 9.2.0.1 software for 5L, to reduce down time later.
8.1.7 still running
Upgrade OS to 5.2 - flip kernel to 64bit
Perform upgrade with upgrade assistant
startup 9.2.0.1

Can I install the 9.2.0.1 for 5L software before actually upgrading the OS to 5.2?
