Can not delete all backup files?

everyday there is being made a backup set by rman. (I am running Oracle 8).

When I make a "report obsolete" a list is being generated and I afterwards can delete the files that is reported as obsoleted by rman.

But in the backup folder there are some older files, that is not being mentioned in that "report obsolete" command. When I try to delete them as the other obsolete files, rman can not "see" the files and are unable to delete them of course.

Do I have to delete them through windows or is there a safer way, so I don`t risk that Oracle have registered these files.

May they are still needed for recovery.
Why don't you do a full backup and delete all the obsolate files afterwards?
There are three kinds of lies: Lies, damned lies, and benchmarks...

Unix is user friendly. It's just very particular about who it's friends are.

You mean close the database and make a full cold backup. And before I restart the database than just delete the files by windows ? - Oracle will than miss the deleted files or ... ?

Have you thought about that those files are not in the catalog?

Yes - I know there are not in the catalog, but I donĀ“t know if they somehow are connected to other Oracle things.

I think those backups are created before using catalog.
That is using control file as repository.
