    Tusc ?

    The Ultimate Software Consultants.

I have not run into any TUSC consultants in years, but I remember them to be quite good.

Has anyone had interaction with them recently? Do they do mostly short tuning stints ?

Neimec's group is still alive and kicking - same ol, same ol.

They're always at OpenWorld - or whatever they're calling it this year - handing out the most sought after conference gimmie's: t-shirts. Dang things are like cigarettes in prison.

Hey, I saw Burleson there too.. in a nice looking suit and .. get this .. tennis shoes!

    Would consider working for them?

I heard their contract durations have dropped from months if not years to a few weeks. Seems to me you cannot learn someones business and build systems in that amount of time. Therefore I was wondering if their road warriors had become mostly tuning mercinaries. Arrive, tune bottlenecks, exit.

It takes a special set of talents to be able to spend so much time on the road. I couldn't do it.

On the other hand, it's great exposure to the Oracle technology stack. (which, in many cases, is a smoke stack)

    Best of luck,

    Ken

I've worked with some TUSC consultants a little while back. Their overall experience is fairly extensive, and they have the knowledge base to back them up (like most reputable consultings companies).

I've personally known some folks that have worked there also .... they work long hours, have to wear a suit-and-tie (yuk!). But I would say that if you want to be part of a well-known/well-respected company; then join TUSC. One of the guys started out as a Remote-DBA, got involved in some consulting projects for them, travelled quiet a bit-but got a nice bonus at the end of the project too.

    Good luck.

Just got this post card in the mail today:

"TUSC offers a $1,000 referral bonus for full-time hires"

How 'bout we split it amongst all the posters to this thread?

Right now some TUSC consultants are working with us to
help tune some applications and build up data warehouse.
To be honest, they are not so impressive.
I don't think they are better than some DBAs active here.
But they are really talkative and know how to present themselves.
