    Question on the analyze command

    What is the process running within the Oracle database engine when a "analyze table" command is run. Are tables locked,etc?

    the process is the server process

    tables are not locked

    So, what does happen at the backend while a analyze command is running?

    Here's a little sample. RTM.

    It samples data, collects statistics, counts rows.

    'validate structure' checks for corrupted blocks and in the process creates undo.
