    I wanted to know which parameters i can use to improve performance on the oracle 8i instance. Oracle installer obviously doesnt provide all parameters i can use to increase performance.

    Tuning an oracle database is not as simple as tweaking a few parameters. I suggest you look at:

    Just as an aside, I thought it was very cute that on the Database Companies Stock Price page on the Ionyx site, they include Sybase and Informix, but neither Microsoft nor IBM. Guess they're just wishful thinking, eh? ;P
