Forms & Report Server as the name suggest are servers, one serves forms and the other reports. What this means is that instead of using traditional client/server architecture with the use of these two servers you can deploy multi-tier architecture Forms & Reports, what this achieves is light clients on PCs, you simply need IE or netscape as clients and instead of having Forms & Report runtime the forms & reports server will send some Java applet to your light client. Now this part I am not sure but I think all runtime processes are run now in the Forms & Reports server instead of client servers.
I believe you need Developer 6i to use this.
Right now, Oracle manages 2 prods.
Oracle8i and Oracle9i Application Server.
O9iAS was Oracle internet Application Server, what was Oracle Application Server....what'a mess!!
Anyway.
If you, right now, buy Oracle9i Application Server Enterprise Edition, you will have
-Apache HTTP Server
-Forms Server
-Reports Server
-Discoverer Plus
-PERL, CGI, JSP, PSP, etc.
Download it and install it in a different Oracle Home.
* So, there is two ways of doing this.
1. oracle8.1.6 and Oracle9iAS Enterprise to be able
to see my Forms and reports via the WEB!!!!
NOTHING ELSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2. oracle8.1.6, developer6i server, and a listener
everything besides Oracle8.1.6 should be installed
together on a different home
