    Server Configuration

    hi all,

    we are having IBM x226, 64bit server
    with 2GB RAM, Xeion Processor,
    72x4 GB HD, RAID 5 implemented.

    We want to install Oracle 8.1.7 EE
    on W2K server platform.

    Out Commercial Software is 75% OLTP and 25 % DSS type combination.

    We are having around 120 terminal usinng win98 to use our software.

    What should be configuration of oracle installation for optimal performance

    Any reason to stick with 8.1..?
    What about 9i and above.

    Hey PSoni just out of curiosity don't you know that 8 is going to be desupported? Like soon.

    dont think that´s important since they are still using win98 (7 years old OS)

    as we are having 8.1.7 , our mangement is not ready to purchase new version. so we have to use it.

    regarding win98 we are running smoothly without any probelm.

    Is any there help regarding my query .....

    It's not that we don't want to help you but.... I'm going to say it cause it needs to be said.

    1. By asking us what kind of configuration you should implement means you haven't done any research yourself.
    2. By stating that you're using old and soon to be unsupported Oracle software with the excuse of "because management doesn't want to buy it" says that you obviously haven't read your license agreement.

    So here's my advice.
    1. Go read
    2. If your management finds out that your not doing your job (see #1)smile when you ask "would you like a biscuit with that?"

    BTW: what company do you work for?

    Put linux on that box and test it with 9iR3 or 10gRx.
