Hi anandkl,
i am just sharing my experience since i also recently upgraded from 8.1.7.3 to 10g . i recommend don't go with ASM instance , i have opened some bugs for duplicating database when asm is enabled . and just fixed another bug of SGA not able to grow more than 4GB on windows environment. i am using 10.1.0.3, though.
i suggest you wait for nexct release of 10g database. since we wasted lot of time following these bugs.

hi friends,
We also wanted to migrate our 8.1.7 DB on AIX 4.3.3 to 10g AIX 5L.
Maybe i will skip some new features in 10g (which might have some bugs?) and use the features available or stable in 9i? is ASM just
new to 10g?
Another concern is...what parameter settings should i carry or copy
from my old 8.1.7 init.ora to the 10g spfile.ora? One thing im sure
of is the process,shared_pool,... any other signicant ones?
Thanks a lot

Hi Kris,
Instead of assigning values for SHARED_POOL_SIZE, DB_CACHE_SIZE,LARGE_POOL_SIZE,JAVA_POOL_SIZE
You can assign value to sga_target , which will take care of all the 4 parameters .
