name of listener
Hi, i noticed in one of my databases that there is a name of the listener. so by doing a start in LSNRCTL>, i wont be able to do so. But if i do a start LISTENERNAME, then i am able. However, i am not able to identify the name, only when the personnel told me so.
Is there a way to check?

look in the listener.ora if the listener is called listener then just start will do
-
Hi.
You are right. Initially, i went to path /oracle/SID/817_64/network/admin and could not find the listener name in my listener.ora. However, i noticed from my status listener that it reads the configuration file from /etc/listener.ora instead. And from there, YES, the listener name is right there.
1) where is this pointing of /etc/listener.ora set? i could not find it in my initsid.ora or neither any ifiles at all?
2) so i can set the name of my listener in listener.ora?

look your TNS_ADMIN Env variable
-
Hi.
I did a grep -i admin and nothing was returned.

did a grep -i admin on what?

You can keep your listener.ora and tnsnames.ora either in $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin or /etc without explitly setting TNS_ADMIN.

Hi, davey23uk!
Pando advised me to check my TNS_ADMIN variable. Therefore, i did a "env | grep -i admin" and nothing was returned.

Hi sanjay, my query is with the setting and priority of listener in either /oracle/SID/817_64/network/admin or /etc/listener.ora?

use truss on lsncrtl to see what is being read first.
If you dont want to use /etc, remove the file from it

Hi.
Are u referring to trace?
I search for truss, tusc but no hits even after a full file system search. Please advise
