How to find exact oracle version on oracle client
Hi,
How can I find the exact oracle version on the client software. I would like to know if it is 8.1.7.3.0 or 8.1.7.4.0 etc
Here's the directories in that path
% pwd
/oracle/client/81x_64
% ls
jdbc lib ocommon
I could not find anything that would help under lib
% cd lib
% ls
libclntsh.so libclntsh.so.8.0 libocijdbc8.so libocijdbc8_g.so libwtc8.so
Thanks
Vj

Run up the installer and look at installed products?!
Dime bars anyone...

bit like an armadillo....
anyway, launch the client and it will tell you the version

SAP kernel uses this oracle client. The oracle client is extracted/unpacked from the SAP website, that's how the client gets installed, so I cannot run the installer nor can invoke sqlplus.
any ideas?

I'm not sure what they are, but if you could run one over that would be great.
I'm in Pittsburgh.
Nugpot, I would guess that people don't patch Oracle clients very often, unless they need to for a specific issue. Have you looked in "C:\Program Files\Oracle\Inventory\logs"?
Otherwise you could just ask the vendor.

Cool. Hopefully Bazza pops over with the Chocolate soon as I leave work in 30 minutes.

If SAP, then the oracle client is in relation with the SAP kernel. In additional, from the path itself, yes u are right that, we cant determine.
However, sm51, release info should be able to provide u. Or other tcodes.
Cheers
