Slim, if you're still bored, explain this:

I've been watching the TV. BBC World gave the death of Arthur Miller top billing and it dominated the news programs. CNN gave it 10 seconds after a full-length piece on modeling & fashion shows.

Left-right polarisation? A prophet without honour in his own country?

(I feel a bit attached as I've played a couple of pieces by him.)

Maybe if they'd had video footage of him being beaten to death, or eaten by a tiger or something, it would have got more attention.

I think slimdave has something there. I find it strange that CNN would give only ten seconds for someone like Miller. It's my belief that CNN is a "left" leaning network, I mean Ted Turner owns it and if you know anything about Ted Turner you know he could never be mistaken for anything conservative. I could see CNN spewing the fluff and I could see a netwoek like Fox giving only ten seconds for someone like Miller. It's a sad state of affairs when all that gets "reported" is fluff.

As for senators. for as long as I can remember senators have been perceived to be more like the House of Lords.

Sigh.....those were the days my friend, I thought they'd never end.
I too remember when this place was coo.

They sure gave enough time to the great "Spongebob Promotes Homosexuality" story. Now there was a waste of electricity.

CNN eventually realised he was more than just Marilyn Monroe's husband . . .

Perhaps the two last paragraphs of this explain why it took some time:
Nicholas Hytner, artistic director of the Royal National Theatre . . . . .

"Arthur Miller was the last of the great titans of the American stage," he said.

"He brought to the English-speaking theatre a poetic urgency and tragic sweep that had been absent since the Elizabethan era.

"I have no doubt that plays like Death of a Salesman, The Crucible and A View from the Bridge will always stand with the masterpieces of Ibsen, Shakespeare and Sophocles."

Mr Hytner, who directed the 1996 film version of The Crucible, said "the uncompromising morality of his world view", particularly in his later years, meant he was better appreciated outside his home country.

"America felt rebuked by him. Many Americans have felt insulted... his refusal to meet them halfway was the magnificent stubbornness of the great artist."

The previous test, on Dec. 15, failed under almost identical circumstances. The target missile launched, but the interceptor did not. Military officials later blamed that failure on fault-tolerance software that was oversensitive to small errors in the flow of data between the missile and a flight computer. The software shut down the launch; officials said they would decrease the sensitivity in future launches.
Maybe if they spent more money everything would work???
