Iam currently running a grep on the entire file system for the old db name. I'm wondering if I missed something. This wont be done for a few hours. Until then any other suggestions?

well I got the grep results back, but it did not find anything. So back to square one with this.

out of ideas really,
last thing I would try is jsust have rocky in the tnsnames file
ROCKY =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 152.10.23.196)(PORT = 1521))
)
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVICE_NAME = rocky.rocky)
)
)
then try tnsping rocky and tnsping ROCKY.ADMISSIONS.MVC.EDU
failing that, open a tar :-)

I ended up creating a db on another linux box at the university and porting over the data. Took only a few hours and we were back up and running.
I tried to create anther db on the same machine at first and I got all sorts of errors, so I said forget it. Things are looking good again.
Davey tahnks again for all your help.
