database maintainance

Hi,
What are the types of database maintainance that will require a dba to shut the database down in order to perform those maintainance?

change static parameters in initSID.ora
Increase logical volume in UNIX where Oracle is mounted

if you are in noarchive mode then there are more maintenance jobs

Here is few
Backup strategy. Depends on types of recovery we need to do.
Do you have to maintain server for 24/7

If so, then put it in Archive log mode. Maintain all the archivelog files
Take export also every night.
