oracle upgrade OUI dilemmna....

First, i need to patch my oracle to 8.1.7.4. For this, from "CD ORACLE
8.1.7.4 Patches HP-UX 51017858.ZIP" i can use the current OUI as the
readme for this doesnt require any specific OUI. However, In note
540021, it says " Installation time for patch sets/patches. Install
the latest Oracle patch set and associated available patches before
carrying out the upgrade.


Current OUI Version
The following applies to Oracle patch sets <=9.2.0.3:
Install an updated version of the Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) as
described in Note 601965. To install patches or patch sets, use the
updated version only (2.2.0.16 or higher)!


The following applies to Oracle Patchset 9.2.0.4:
To install Oracle patch set 9.2.0.4, you require OUI Version
2.2.0.18.0 at least (see patch set README).
To make it easier, this OUI Version is contained in this patch set. We
recommend installing the OUI Version 2.2.0.18.0 contained in this
patch set before installing the patch set itself, even if OUI
2.2.0.18.0 had already been downloaded and installed as separate
component.

Then for oracle patch 9.2.0.5, the readme file says "Users applying
this patch set must use Oracle Universal Installer release 10.1.0.2 or
later to ensure their Oracle home can be patched in the future. The
patch set is packaged with a fully installable version of Oracle
Universal Installer release 10.1.0.2 to support this requirement.


When beginning the installation, you will be presented with a screen
to select Oracle Universal Installer release 10.1.0.2 or Oracle9i
9.2.0.5.0 patch set. You should select Oracle Universal Installer
first. Attempts to install the patch set without Oracle Universal
Installer release 10.1.0.2 will cause an error"


As from above, there are a few versions of OUI. I have 2 questions.


1) From https://websmp103.sap-ag.de/swcenter-3pmain, i could only find
OUI 2.2.0.18.0. Can i use this for all my patches?


2) For patch 9.2.0.5, i need OUI 10.1.0.2, and from my understanding,
this is only installed through ./runinstaller and this file can be
found only after creating the staging area and importing data?

if the first paragraph you talk about upgrading to 8.1.7.4, then you go on about 9iR2 stuff

My steps as belows. Current version is 8.1.7.2

1) patch to 8.1.7.4
2) Installation Oracle Software 9.2.0
3) Installation Oracle Patchset 9.2.0.5
4) Upgrade of the database is run with the u0801070.sq

My query is with the OUI. Seems that each of the above steps, requires a different version of OUI. Can i use oui220180 for all the above steps?

Step 3 requires me with OUI 10.1.0.2, which i can only get from the staging area?

Just follow whaterver instructions are there, not hard is it.

9i has a new installed, 9.2.0.5 has a new installer just use them and get on with it
