Control files loss
Hi falks,
Our field enginner has removed by mistake the control files of the database and its archive logs. (shame on him .....)
For our bad luck, there is not a backup of the database (god will help this customer ....)
The datafiles and the online redo logs are still available.
Is there a way to save the database and bring it on?
OS: Sun Solaris
DB version: 8.1.7
Thanks in advance,
Nir

There might be a trace file available in udump dir if some one executed "alter database backup controlfile to trace" in the past.
If so, you can recreate the control file.

well eventually oracle will crash saying it cant write to the control file.
Try alter database backup control file to trace while it is still running, see what happens (it may crash it there and then)
if it crashes startup nomount and create the control file again.
Anyway i'd raise a tar with oracle and get them to walk you through it
and whats a field engineer?
did he delete all the control files or just one?

Hi Tamil and davey23uk,
Thanks for your replies.
I've already tried to create a new control files ,but I couldn't open the database because
rolling archive logs are needed, and I don't have any of them.
I've opened a tar via metalink and may god help us ...
Field Engineer is the one who install our product in the customer's site.
He has deleted all the control files (3 !!).
