    I would have to concur with your diagnosis. Recovery, if possible, will be tricky.
    Is there a more senior DBA who could intervene?

    If the db was open, then this shouldn't be possible under Windows - OS file locking.

    If you are able to mount As you said...
    then query the database for the files needing recovery....
    (use v$recover_file). Is it in archive log mode?.
    when is the last successful backup you have and also the archive logs backup....
