What appears in the alert log and what doesn't?

    Simple question:

Which ORA errors originating from within the database appear in the alert log? I would have thought all of them, but it appears that ORA-04031 shared memory messages don't.

I have an applixcation generating these errors and ORA-00604 recusrive SQl errors. The alert logs show nothing.

Anyknow explain why this would be so? Because its a memory problem and not a DB problem? Is it as simple as that?

You will see these errors in the trace files in your udump directory.

It's not a simple mismatch between your init.ora udump destination parameter, and the physical destination location is it?

checked everywhere Horace... It has me stumped! Checked the ini.ora for the location , then looked all over the server for .trc files????
