They played a wide variety of music, and created a large cult following. They are and have been one of the most influential bands in the 20th century.

Beside conservatives are jealous of the free love that they practiced. So that makes you a Birkenstock wearing hippie liberal wannabe!

What about Neil Young? I'm listening to Decade now. Cortez The Killer, the only Neil Young song that I know of to be banned in Spain!!!

C'mon Gandolf, there is no need to justify the Dead to anyone. Personally I never "got" them. The Dead were like Pee Wee Herman, you either loved them or didn't, I didn't.

I'm not discrediting them, it is just that some people did not get what they were all about.

Decade is a great album and Neil Young is one of the greatest songwriters of out time. You do know that it is a best of album no?

Take a listen to Reckoning, Working Man's Dead and Eurpe '72. I have Europe '72 on vinyl. Another great dead albumn is American Beauty. There are just too many great dead albums to name.

As it covers the "Decade" from 1967 to 1977, yes it is a best of.

The members of Spinal Tap were also in a Mighty Wind. They once opened for themselves as The Folksmen and got Booed off the stage.

I have the live 72 album but just can't get into it.
China cat sunflower is a real neet tune though, great guitar work.

Did you follow Phish around the country too?
