    Angry unable to connect as sysdba

    hi,

    my db is oracle9i 9.2.0.4 / w2k server. i am able to login to sqlplus by connecting "sys as sysdba", but when i try to start the database it says "ORA-01031: insufficient privileges". What is the problem? How can i start the database?. TNSPING SIDNAME gives ok.
    please help.

    wy do you think tnsping has anything to do with connecting?

    anyway is your os user in the ORA_DBA group?

    yes the user is in ORA_DBA group.....!!!!!

    I had this problem (on a Windows install) on my laptop when I disconnected it from the work domain. When I was connected to my work domain, I was able to connect as sysdba. Is this scenerio relevant in your case ?
