    !!! copy <> move !!!

    You can copy file that's open for update - that happens in a hot backup. You can't move it.

    move, my bad, the copy does not take care of the housekeeping so of course you must move it

    I'm into less work, less code. Scripted hot backups are prone to error during both the backup and recovery phase. When there was nothing else, it worked. Now that there's RMAN, there is no excuse not to use it.

    1991 is way to long Jeff. WINDOZZ 3.11(Workgroup) probably was not around at that time(It was Novell that dominates then). Can you remember using NET USE, since MAPPED DRIVE was not available then?

    Anyway, OracleDoc emphasized that the backup strategy he made was based on a scenario when RMAN is not available.

    knowing the likes of Jeff, he could be thinking that the WINDOZz O.S. was that long enough and still yet to mature. Or will it?
