Protocol=ipc Key=extproc
Can someone tell me what these are used for. It is found in the listener.ora by default as another address to listen at.
When I have 2 listeners on the same box and both have these entries in their listener.ora file, one listener can't startup because this address is already used by the other listener.
I want to know what it is primamly used so as to know if I can simply simply remove it from either listeners.

extproc is there to allow you to call out of your database to another OS program. Some consider it a security issue and take it out of their listener.ora all together.

Oracle Security Alert #57 identifies a buffer overflow problem in EXTPROC. There is a patch for 9i but not for 8i where removing it from the listener is the recommended work around.
