    Change of database name

    Hi,

You cannot change the database name without re-creating the database as of now and per my knowledge.

I would say recreate controlfile and not the database. You can rename a database by recreating the control files.

You don't even have to recreate the controlfile for changing database name. A simple ALTER DATABASE sql statement would be sufficient.

U sure Jurij, did we not have an argument on when to recreate control files. AFAIK alter database is used to rename the GLOBAL_NAME and not the database name. You need to recreate control file to do that in Oracle8i and DBNEWID in Oracle9i and above.

I think jurij agreed in old post regarding the same.In windows u are forced to use ORADIM to create a new service apart from control file recreation.
