Security Patch #68 on AIX (8.1.7) -possible corruption

This is just a warning to fellow users out there.

Yesterday I got an email from Oracle stating that one of the patches I downloaded for Alert #68 for 8.1.7 on AIX (3811838) had possible "problems" and I should uninstall it and reinstall a newly updated version of the patch.

I opened a TAR with Oracle to see what type of problems they were talking about.
    This is the response:
The problem involved 'possible' corruption and are not security related. There is no way to determine if you would run into this problem, but the letter is requesting that you download the patch again, undo, and reapply.
I don't know about you, but corruption is scarier to me than a security hole (since my app isn't on the internet).

    Just an FYI for everyone.

Rules you may follow ( do not follow CBO):

You should not hurry to install any patch / release from oracle.
Wait and Watch after you hear about the "ALERT".
Give some time to other peoples' responses.
Test the patch in dev box. Leave it for one month to run.
And finally you apply it on prod env.

    Tamil -
I followed all the things you said. Waited 6 weeks to apply the patch in production. One week after I applied it, I get the email. Figures.

I still have not seen anyone else comment on the "bug". Apparently VERY specific to 8.1.7 on AIX.

    Thanks!
