    How to deploy oracle forms/reports over web ?

    Hi All,

    I am completely new to the web world.

    We have an application which is in client-server technology
    (oracle forms /reports 6i)
    Oracle database 816

    Now we wanted to move our application from client-sever to web enabled.

    I had tested all the 9iAS Release 1 & 2 longtime back and was really confused as 1 & 2 installation was different .

    Release 2 had some infrastructure..etc.

    Now we are planning to move completely to 10g forms & 10iAS. I was going through some docs (10g iAS installation) and there it says now it has becomes simple where we can just install some Forms & Report services instead of the whole iAS.

    1) What all do I need to run my application over web ?

    2) Just installing the Oracle Forms & Report Services of 10g(9.0.4)is enough for my application to run over web ?
    Or
    Do I need to install the whole 10g iAS ?

    ---Thanks
    Prashchou

    Oracle Forms & Report Services of 10g are enough to run only FORMS & REPORTS

    Open your eyes and read what you see. There are two links on the page (in the DBA Support.com recent articles block at the top left)about what you are asking.

    I was looking into this a couple of years ago and recall that in order to deploy your forms on the web you need AS. IDS will allow you to preview your forms in a local browser, but other users won't be able to access them.

    Stecal I have read the cookbooks, I have a way to name the report server I think it's worth to mentioning.

    What I do is set a variable

    REPSERVER=rep_simdessap

    in $ORACLE_HOME/forms90/server/default.env

    then in the reports I use pl/sql code to get this servername

    tool_env.getvar('REPSERVER', l_repserver);

    So if one day the servername changes I will modify REPSERVER to something else

    greets

    Plz. confirm Hacketta1's statement:

    ######################################
    in order to deploy your forms on the web you need AS. IDS will allow you to preview your forms in a local browser, but other users won't be able to access them.
    ########################################

    Is it ????????

    So the forms & reports services in IDS will only allow me to preview from the local system and I cannot view from a different system ?
