Forms 5 and db 8 to 9i access

We are using forms 5 and reports and accessing
9i db in our new setup (previously 8).
sql net is configured.

Am I need to change the client configuration to
access the 9i db to improve performance.

if so what are the required components that are to be installed
in the client side.
