SGA not able to address 5gb of Phy. Mem

    All:
Hardware is Keyston HPUX-RP8400 with 24GB Physical Memory.
    ORACLE 9i 64bit EE.
We have an SGA of 5.5GB Max sga size defined. When we look at GPM on the host, I notice that Oracle is not addressing all of physical ram but its also addressing vm in hpux. I attempted to use pre_page_sga but that does not work also.

    any suggestions?

Have you looked at the semaphore settings for your system?

    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs...e.htm#CHDCJDHI

    From tahiti.oracle.com

    Kernel Parameter Settings for HP

For HP, you may use the System Administrator's Menu (SAM) to configure the HP kernel as required by your application. The parameters in the following table are those recommended for a general user running a typical Oracle9i single database instance on HP. You may need to change the values per your application needs and the type of system you are working on. Refer to the following table to determine if your system shared memory and semaphore kernel parameters are set correctly for Oracle9i. Use the ipcs command to obtain a list of the system's current shared memory and semaphore segments, and their identification numbers and owner.

Are you sure pre_page_sga doesn't work. From the manual:
    "Note:
This setting does not prevent your operating system from paging or swapping the SGA after it is initially read into memory."

    Guys:

I did follow the HPUX guide but I cant understand why OS is swapping anything over 2gb when we have 24Gb Physical Ram. I think Its an HP memory thing but I a mnot sure.

    Is your os properly patched?
Have you look at the hp support site?
Also is you os in 64 bit mode?

It is possible to run HPUX as a 32 bit operating system,
there is a parameter for it.
But don't ask me which one, because I don't know.
