router issue windows xp
I want to access oracle from the internet. I have a netgear router and the PC is connected to the router. The router has an external ip address. I have opened port 1521 on the router and forwarded to the PC that has oracle. What else is needed to connect to the db?
In the tns names for4 the client the ip address I believe is that of the router. The port is 1521 since that is the port I have opened.
Any help greatly appreciated

From Gennick:
"However, only Connection Manager gave me the ability to restrict connections to a small range of IP addresses."
No true according to Jurij:

I stillhave issues.
I installed connection manager from CD.
When I put the my own cman.ora I got
Failed to start servicem error 997
TNS-0439
so I deleted cman.ora and used default.
Then started
CMCTL> start using the default..
I still have issues.
I havent used connection manager before. Is theremore setup? I havent gone to the NETMANAGER to do any setup.
port forwarding was done for 1630
I still get connection error TNS12535 from client on both tnsping and sqlplus
thx

In general Net Manager is easier & less error-prone than constructing the .ora files by hand.
Unfortunately "Oracle Net Manager does not support configuration of the cman.ora file, so changes must be made manually."
If you follow the MetaLink suggestion of putting USE_SHARED_SOCKET=TRUE in the environment (and reboot) you can avoid using connection manager . . .
