Upgrade - Oracle8i to 9i on Windows Platform

    Hi,

Its been for a while since I worked on Oracle/Windows Platform. Today I have tried to upgrasde manually from 8174 to 9205, Got stupid software conflict errors (seperate OHs) of listener and could not connect to database at all. Did anyone experience these issues on upgrades to 9205 ?

My Client can't give me a workstation to test this and the client annual revenue this year is 5.4 billion. Does it makes sense ?

If it's a platform you are unfamilar with, you might want to bypass manual migration and just use dbua.

Its not I'm unfamiliar with, but have not done recently 9iupgrades on windows. Thats what (dbua) I thought of using next time I attempt to upgrade.

I know its software errors (screwed both 8i listener and 9i listener), becuase I could not even back out and bring up the database until I de-install 9i software oracle home. After de-installation I could connect the way I was connecting before.

I've done 3 or 4 on Windoze (not to 9i though). Always with the GUI, every time very smooth. The only thing to watch is that it may appear to hang - due to a window needing a response not being on top.

    Beats eating it

(I have to admit that it now looks like a h/w prob*** - not the OS - don't tell Jeff!)

    Added later:
*** Yup. Had lashed in a new HD - all worked OK. Moved it to it's final resting place, on a different leg of the PSU, and the Net cards started producing random MAC addresses etc! Not enough beans in the PSU.

I can't fault the OS for hardware problems.
