RAID and ORACLE
Hello Guys,
Currently are running oracle on RAID 5.
We are planning to move to new server PE 6050 dell servers with SAN storage. The system engineers were asking abt what RAID to be configured for ORACLE.
Can someone suggest me pls.
Even though i dont see much probs with RAID 5.I have heard RAID 10 is good for oracle and one more thing all the data, index, rbs, log, control files will be on the same disk.
thanx in advance.

You don't say how many disks.
In very general terms:
- RAID-1 Good.
- Put log files on devices with minimum (preferably zero) other activity.
I'm not 100% sure about hardware striping - once you've set it up, you're pretty much stuck with it. If your tablespaces are composed of many files, on different devices, Oracle uses them in a round-robin fashion giving you a kind of poor-man's striping. This gives you the option to change your mind about it

If you can do it, multiple 0+1 filesystems are best. If budget is a concern, I'd have two 0+1 filesystems for redo and undo and put the rest on raid 5.
