"Iraqi interim Prime Minister Ayad Allawi, speaking to Congress, thanked the United States today for liberating Iraq and vowed that American sacrifices will not be in vain. "We are succeeding in Iraq, " he said. "Thank you, America, " he added, bringing a standing ovation from lawmakers. Allawi also said elections for a transitional Iraqi national assembly will be held in January, as scheduled.

"Looks like Allawi ain't the free-thinking individualist that you think."
Neither he or Kararzi(sp) are free thinkers, but Kararzi(sp) would survive on his own, as you have noted Allawi would not.

Yes, that's such an odd occurrance; getting your liberator to help you with a speech to his country.

Yes, it is an odd occurance! As you listened to his speech you could hear all of the Republican catchphrases being trotted out... in contradiction to his earlier statement that terrorists were pouring across the border.
And then in the debate yesterday Bush had the effrontery to declare...
... And when [Prime Minister Allawi] came, after giving a speech to the Congress, my opponent questioned his credibility... One of his campaign people alleged that Prime Minister Allawi was like a puppet. That's no way to treat somebody who's courageous and brave that is trying to lead his country forward.
Well, that's exactly the way that you treat a prime minister who lets a foreign political party write his speeches for him ... as a puppet
