8.1.7 client on XP .
Hi friends,
has anyone installed oracle 8.1.7 client on windows XP.
actually i am able to connect from my client system to oracle database. using toad ,
do we need to install oracle client specifically .
prakash
Yes 8.1.7 on XP client, no problem - but I've only tried XP prof.
TOAD uses OCI calls, so you need a minimum client (including the Net stuff) installed. (? ? I wonder if 10g instant client would do ? ?)
ye, instant client will do, just make sure you download the oci stuff as well
Thanks guys ,
i could install oracle client , actually there is a patch set 1507768 .
i was wondering if we need to install oracle client system ata all , when we are able to connect from toad .
i am basically configuring weblogic to oracle client ...
Readme for bug number 1507768
A copy of OUI 1.7.1.10.0 is being provided to be used
in a work around for installing on Pentium 4 processors.
1. unzip the patch
2. unjar the contents
3. Go to the directory
.\cd\Disk1\stage\Components\oracle.swd.jre\1.1.7.30/1\DataFiles\Expanded\jre\win32\bin\symcjit.dll
rename symcjit.dll to symcjit.dll.ori
4. Invoke OUI and install OUI to disk
cd ./cd/Disk1/stage/win32/setup.exe
5. Use the installed OUI to install the RDBMS
Invoke OUI from the start menu, and install RDBMS software.
prakash, is that a question? Perhaps you'd like to rephrase it with a question mark at the end of the bit that needs answering.
OK ..
here i rephrase my question
i have installed oracle forms runtime on my system . and nothing else
so i am able to connect to forms runtime .. and i have installed toad . even that i sconnecting ..
but now i whave installed weblogic in my box ..
it needs oracle drivers .. does this need oracle client to be installed ?? ( ofcourse we can have weblogic thin drivers )
but for oracle drivers do we need to have oracle client installed . if connection is established isn't that enough ??
Do you have a JDBC driver installed?
how can i check if oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver is present ?

You could look at This.
Specifically the section with 4.10.1 Accessing Object Types and Collections through JDBC.
